A couple of years back, I was in the final interview with the recruiter for a corporate job. I had prepared for the deep-dive questions: What are your greatest weaknesses? What are your biggest qualities? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? You know, the classics. So classic, in fact, that I am sure you'd rehearsed speeches for each one. Well, instead, I got the: What is your astrology sign? Yes, unemployed friends, being a Pisces really landed me that job. As I said, there are some things about job hunting no one really prepares you for.

Another thing no one told you about adulthood and work life is that there are so many jobs out there you didn’t even know existed when they asked you what you wanted to be when you grew up. Take it from me: I once applied to be a “communications ambassador.” To this day, I have no idea what the actual job description was, but I've learned there are no passports involved, nor any embassy of any kind.

When you’ve sent enough applications around, you have to get a little creative. My current job, I got after sending an application email that contained a poem about unemployment, so when I say creative, I mean really creative. Hey! You could attach some of these memes to your portfolio. Everyone knows that the way to a company’s heart is through good comedy. And hard work, dedication, a degree, blah, blah, blah. I would focus on an incredible sense of humor.

Life is a cycle. You get a job, you do your job, you leave your job, you look for a new job. So, instead of focusing on the very noticeable ups and downs of the process, let's take a second to laugh about it. Job hunting will not get any easier, but it will get more entertaining. And sometimes, the best job you can have is to make yourself laugh. Or, you know, something that has a better paycheck and benefits, but laughter is good for now.
